Sensory Path

Image
I wanted to share this resource I just made to try to keep my kids from bouncing off of the walls during this shelter in place.  We are really missing playgrounds, and school, and just leaving the house in general.  I have seen a lot of pictures of sensory paths online and saw some you could order, but they were so expensive and I don't want anything permanent.  I threw this together and wanted to put it out there in hopes that it might help some other parents!  Enjoy and stay safe : )   https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/10AqiU8DjXqV5TZ8JT_xVLAkun_SkrBsHt3Z8fcxn6_M/edit?usp=sharing

I Love You When

Image
I Love You When… Sometimes, even though I try I end up being bad.  Sometimes, I even think I make my mommy mad. When I do I look at her and say, “Mommy, do you still love me?”  My mom looks down at me with a smile on her face and says, “I love you when you’re being good and even when you’re bad.   I love you when you sit and read or when you’re running down my halls. I love you when you're laughing, and when you're crying too.  I love you when you're sleeping or when you’re jumping on my bed. I love you when you’re happy or sick or mad or sad. I am your mommy and what that means is no matter what you do;  I will always love you so.”

Owl Baby Crafts

This week my daughter chose the owl for our weekly animal.  I planned our week off of Owl Babies by Martin Waddell.  I have always loved this book and frequently use it in therapy.  We had a lot of fun coming up with crafts to go along with it.  Crafts are a great way to target speech and language at home, in the classroom, or in therapy. I started with this one because my daughter has been obsessed with gluing recently.  It was super easy to set up.  I drew a quick owl picture, helped her cut out some feathers and let her go to town gluing them all on.  You can print off the one below or draw your own.   The language goals I targeted include requesting supplies, following 1-2 step directions, and describing our pictures using adjectives. Next, we made shadow puppets.  We just cut out some owls and taped them to a popsicle stick.  Then the fun began.  We set up a light in my daughter's room with her blackout curtains up.  The kids had a blast making and

The Week of the Dragon: Dragon Activities for Young Children

Summer has just begun which means I need to find a way to keep my two little ones busy! As a speech therapist I love doing themed activities.  I also love to continue building my kids speech and language skills. This summer my kids chose to do animals for our topic,  so I will be coming up with activities revolving around one animal per week. I will have different activities such as books,  snacks,  crafts,  yoga poses, etc..  Check back for more animal activities to use with your youngens at home, in the classroom, or in therapy.    In week one, we're starting with the dragon!  My son's choice 😀.  We always start the week reading. I like getting both fiction and non- fiction at various levels. Books are a great way to expose young children to new vocabulary.   Here are my top choices for the books we read: Dear Komodo Dragon-  This was a great book to teach my kids about a real "dragon".  This is my son's favorite animal, so he loved learning all the facts.  It
